Notes On Pricing:
I strive to offer my services at rates that are both fair and reasonable. The price structures for all my editorial services have been established using the rates chart listed on the Editorial Freelancers Association website. Please note that this chart provides the median rates and was compiled using survey data from the 2019 calendar year. Much like everything else, costs have risen over subsequent years.
Even if you choose not to hire me, I would caution you to be discerning when choosing an editor. While there are a number of good editors on sites like Fiverr or Upwork, there are also plenty of horror stories floating around. Be smart and vigilant when hiring someone who has access to your unpublished manuscript.
When choosing an editor, style and personality can be just as important as knowledge. If an editor doesn’t offer a sample edit (whether free or for a nominal fee), proceed with caution. Any good editor will tell you that being a good fit is important. For more information on choosing an editor, click here.
I stand by my prices being fair and reasonable. Having said that, I understand that costs associated with publishing can feel prohibitive for many indie authors. One of the reasons I decided to become a freelance editor was because I wanted to help other romance authors (like you!) succeed. If pricing is a concern, please get in touch so we can discuss options such as custom packages, discounted rates for bundled services, and payment installments. It can’t hurt to ask.
A Final Note:
If you are truly unable to fit editing within your budget at this time, that’s ok. We are all at different stages. Even if I am the right editor for you, I might not be the right editor for you right now. There are a number of successful indie authors who publish their books without ever using an editor. There are a number of successful indie authors who self-edit their books. I know writers from both groups. Some started hiring editors once they were selling enough books to make a profit, but others continue to forego the editing process. There is no one path forward on your publishing journey and only you know what is best for you at this time. Please don’t feel discouraged or walk away thinking that you can’t possibly be successful if you don’t follow a stringent checklist you’ve seen others post online. There are plenty of romance authors out there who have proven otherwise. You could very well be the next one. ♥
